Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We are committed to making our laboratory a welcoming and inclusive environment, therefore,

  • We read and discuss articles about diversity and anti-racism in science and engineering
  • We reflect on our own biases and prejudices
  • We hear and acknowledge that others life experiences are different than our own
  • We appreciate that this is a training environment and assist one another in acquiring new skills and knowledge
  • We strive to make our wider scientific community a place where everyone (including women, immigrants, LGBTQI+, people with disabilities, and Black, Indigenous and People of Color) can thrive

Recent books we have read and discussed include:

  • How to Be an Antiracist (Ibram X. Kendi)
  • Superior: The Return of Race Science (Angela Saini)
  • The Disordered Cosmos: A Journey into Dark Matter, Spacetime, and Dreams Deferred (Chanda Prescod-Weinstein)
